Excellent from start to finish

Finally, a book that treats ai & machine learning with the care it deserves.

This is the third book I have read on ai & machine learning this year, and it is comfortably the best of them. The early chapters move quickly through material I already knew, but the later sections were genuinely new to me. The author is unusually honest about where the simplifications break down, which I appreciated. This is the book I wish had existed when I started working with ai & machine learning.

Good, but not for absolute beginners

An enjoyable and informative read, though it could have been shorter.

I read this over a couple of weekends alongside a small side project, which turned out to be the ideal way to approach it. The examples are small enough to type out and experiment with, which is exactly what I want from a book like this. The explanations are careful without being condescending, which is a difficult balance to strike. I found myself making notes in the margins, which is always a good sign. Solid, and I would buy another book from this author without hesitation.

A genuine pleasure to read

Exactly the book I needed. Straight to the point and genuinely useful.

There is a particular kind of technical book that is dense without being difficult, and this is one of them. The author clearly knows the subject deeply and has thought hard about how to teach it. The progression from chapter to chapter is well thought out; nothing feels out of order. The index and cross-references are surprisingly good, which matters for a book I will come back to. An easy five stars from me. I look forward to whatever the author writes next.
